Pretty goodIt's the first time I have given anything less than a 5 star。 It's actually a very good story and extremely well written。 So my read on for the 4 star is the twist took me by surprise。 It's rather difficult to explain without giving spoilers。 So the only way I can put it is Alex in the graveyard as he walked away felt rather flat to me there just seemed nothing there。 Anyone could have just been chatting about having bought a pint of milk。 Absolutely nothing but flat and disappointed。 Pretty goodIt's the first time I have given anything less than a 5 star。 It's actually a very good story and extremely well written。 So my read on for the 4 star is the twist took me by surprise。 It's rather difficult to explain without giving spoilers。 So the only way I can put it is Alex in the graveyard as he walked away felt rather flat to me there just seemed nothing there。 Anyone could have just been chatting about having bought a pint of milk。 Absolutely nothing but flat and disappointed。。Although the twist prior to that was very unexpected but good。 If only the last few pages could have kept that pace。 Alas as I said flat sorry but it's novel actually felt。I turned the page hoping there may just be that little bit more。。。。。。。。。 。。。more

The AccidentThe Accident is a really good story。 I think calling it “a psychological thriller” might be a stretch。 The Accident is a thoroughly enjoyable read。 I flew through it!

I only discovered Daniel Hurst late last year when I read "The New Friends" followed by "The Break" and totally loved them and his unique way of not just telling a story but still managing to add a little mystery and a few twists。 Just when we thought we knew it all, Hurst throws a curveball into the mix and ruffles plenty of feathers to turn things on its head so that everything is about face all of a sudden。 His skillful storytelling and penchant for the unexpected twist make his books I only discovered Daniel Hurst late last year when I read "The New Friends" followed by "The Break" and totally loved them and his unique way of not just telling a story but still managing to add a little mystery and a few twists。 Just when we thought we knew it all, Hurst throws a curveball into the mix and ruffles plenty of feathers to turn things on its head so that everything is about face all of a sudden。 His skillful storytelling and penchant for the unexpected twist make his books a thrill-ride-a-minute and a definite must-read!The story begins with a grid-locked traffic jam on a sunny summer Sunday afternoon。 People are impatient wondering what the hold up could be on this single lane street。 Until the ambulance arrives。。。and then the police。。。 They can't get through so stop behind the build-up on cars and make their way hastily down the street。 Where one impatient driver decided to venture in an attempt to find out what was holding them up。 He wished he had stayed in his car。Single mum Anni is walking down the street on her way home from a children's birthday party with her seven year old son Tobi。 He is hyped up on sugar, cake and the excitement of the day。 So when his dad calls he is eager to tell him all about his day。 But when he and Anni begin to have words about his access arrangements, Tobi lets go of his mother's hand to run down the street chasing his errant balloon。 As soon as Anni realises, she chases after him。。。but rounds the corner too late。 Her boy is laying sprawled on the tarmac, a white mercedes in front of him with its driver standing there with his head in his hands。 No。 No。 No。 No! The moment it hit her that Tobi was gone, Anni's life changed forever。Carl had spent the afternoon at the pub with his mistress Jo。 They had been seeing each other for a year and she was growing impatient with him dragging his heels over when he was telling his wife that he was leaving her for Jo。 So Jo gave him an ultimatum and Carl made the rash decision that he would tell his wife as soon as he got home。 But first some Dutch courage。 His second rash decision was to get behind the wheel of his car when Jo implored him to get a taxi。 Twenty minutes later, Carl was standing with his head in his hands looking at the lifeless body of a little boy in front his car。 What had he done?Six months later, Carl is now serving a five year sentence for drink driving and killing little Tobi。 It is of little comfort to Anni whose life has changed now that Tobi has gone from it。 It is also of little comfort to Jo, who bears the guilt along with Carl for what happened that day。 But life goes on, even if for Tobi it doesn't。 Anni's compassionate leave has come to an end and she must return to work。 It also happens that Jo, who had a successful career before the accident and resigned suddenly, is now looking for work if she is to survive the next four and a half years until Carl is released。 But what she doesn't expect is to walk into the school she has gotten a substitute teaching position for and to find Anni sitting in the staffroom。 What she should do is hand in her resignation before she has even begun。 But she doesn't。 Instead she and Anni become friends。 And Jo discovers that she actually likes this woman。 But Jo has a secret。 And she needs to do everything she can to keep it hidden。 What then ensues is a tangled web of lies that Jo creates trying to protect her secret, as well as from hurting Anni further。 But Anni is so incredibly lonely after losing her son that the idea of a new friend in Jo is just what she needs。It goes without saying it was all going to come out sooner or later。 But how would Anni react to the news once it was discovered? How would she feel about it and her new friend? Despite it being a train wreck, or a car crash, I just couldn't look away。 There is a twist but it wasn't surprising and I could see it coming, but that didn't ruin my enjoyment。 The ending didn't sit quite right with me, although it was satisfactory, but to say why would spoil the reveal。THE ACCIDENT is not a psychological thriller but it is a psychological drama that keeps you glued to the pages until the very end。 That is the beauty of Daniel Hurst's books。 He knows exactly how to reel a reader in and keep them there。 The short snappy chapters always help to keep the pace moving along nicely。The fact it isn't the psychological thriller it is marketed to be doesn't deter me。 Daniel Hurst is an exceptional writer who keeps his fans absorbed from start to finish and you know you are in for a thrill ride with him at the helm。 I know that whatever he offers will not disappoint。 He is up there with Shalini Boland and Kim Slater in my opinion, and I am surprised I never heard of him before last December! Especially considering how many thrillers he actually has published! Where has he been all my life?THE ACCIDENT may not be the thriller fans are expecting but he does explore the grief of a mother losing her son and the injustice of it, as well as the analysis of one involved with someone serving a prison sentence, and the effects it can have on loved ones。 The story also examines that sometimes things are not always black and white。。。in fact, they almost always are not。 It is cleverly told through the alternating narratives of the three people involved - Anni, Jo and Carl - and each one's grief is raw and real。 All three lives were changed that day and they all paid a hefty price for what in essence was an accident。I also loved the cover - which is almost haunting in nature - although I did wonder why it featured a red balloon when Tobi was carrying a yellow one。Another brilliant offering by Daniel Hurst and I always look forward to more from him。 I think I have just about all his books on my Kindle to try and get and read some time when I have a moment away from my other TBR list。。。lol And I can't wait to dive in and see what awaits。 I know whatever I pick up, I won't be disappointed。I would like to thank #DanielHurst, #Netgalley, #InkubatorBooks and #ZoolooTours for an ARC of #TheAccident in exchange for an honest review。This review appears on my blog at https://stinathebookaholic。blogspot。com/。 。。。more

From the beginning to end this book had me on edge making several guesses on the next move that would occur and I love that in a novel! I also loved that the characters were so well developed that you could understand both sides to a story if you will 。 Definitely would recommend this novel !

This is a good book that kinda shows some of the things that happen when you grieve。 Definitely had a few twists that may or may not shock you。 The lengths people will go through to see their lie(s) seen out…no matter what。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。

Wow!!! I can’t wait to read more of his books! This story just blew my mind, I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was hoping with the storyline being centered around the death of a child that it wouldn’t be an overly sad, depressing book and I can tell you that it is not。 Honestly, going into this book knowing only the basics is best, I for one didn’t see the ending! I thank Inkubator books for the opportunity to read and review this book。

3。5 but I'll round up to 4。 This is the first book that I've read by Daniel Hurst and it won't be the last。 I really enjoyed it, any spare time I had was spent reading it。 It was a quick and easy read。 The plot was easy to get lost in and where as I didn't find the twist that shocking it still made for addictive reading。 My heart broke for each character involved in the story。 I like how the writing made me sympathise with all of the characters。 I can't wait to read more from Daniel Hurst in the 3。5 but I'll round up to 4。 This is the first book that I've read by Daniel Hurst and it won't be the last。 I really enjoyed it, any spare time I had was spent reading it。 It was a quick and easy read。 The plot was easy to get lost in and where as I didn't find the twist that shocking it still made for addictive reading。 My heart broke for each character involved in the story。 I like how the writing made me sympathise with all of the characters。 I can't wait to read more from Daniel Hurst in the future。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

I always enjoy Daniel Hurst’s books and this one was no exception。 It is such a sad story of what might have been and if only but that is the reality of life really。 The inevitably of the countdown to the accident is brilliantly done but I would have liked to know more about Tobi before he died and a little less about the absent husband Joel。The story is mainly told from three points of view - Anni, the grieving mother, Carl, the driver and Jo, his mistress。 There is a small input from Phil the I always enjoy Daniel Hurst’s books and this one was no exception。 It is such a sad story of what might have been and if only but that is the reality of life really。 The inevitably of the countdown to the accident is brilliantly done but I would have liked to know more about Tobi before he died and a little less about the absent husband Joel。The story is mainly told from three points of view - Anni, the grieving mother, Carl, the driver and Jo, his mistress。 There is a small input from Phil the reporter but as another reviewer pointed out, I’m not sure how relevant this was to the story。 Hurst, as usual does a great job with his characters so that the reader is invested in what happens to them and that is what made this such a page turner。 That and the uniqueness of the story。 All three narrators seem pretty decent people, all grieving, all wishing things had turned out differently, all responsible in some way for The Accident, which is why the end came as such a shock and why I have made this a four star review instead of five。 。。。more

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!A fast-paced book with short chapters, I respect。 I didn’t find it to be so thrilling since the writing was flat and the mystery itself was kinda black and white for the most part。 A lot of it was explained so I didn’t have to think much。 And I think the mystery they were trying to hint at in the synopsis was literally revealed in the first few chapters。 I found the choice of 4 POVs interesting, especially whose they were。 I think all of them were a bit lacking Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!A fast-paced book with short chapters, I respect。 I didn’t find it to be so thrilling since the writing was flat and the mystery itself was kinda black and white for the most part。 A lot of it was explained so I didn’t have to think much。 And I think the mystery they were trying to hint at in the synopsis was literally revealed in the first few chapters。 I found the choice of 4 POVs interesting, especially whose they were。 I think all of them were a bit lacking in emotion and I would’ve liked more dialogue。 The 4th POV threw me off and I think that with the long-winded and often repetitive prose diminished the thrill even more。 The more I think about it, we didn’t need Carl or Alex’s POVs。 Or it’d be more suspenseful without Jo’s。 Either way, we didn’t need 4 of them。 It gets an extra star for the ending though。 。。。more

My head was all over the place with this book。 I thought I was going to like it from the first few chapters then half way through I could not figure out where this book was going。 The ending just annoyed me because I read this whole book and it just ended how it did。First I am disappointed as the cover boast that this is a physiological thriller with with a killer twist。For me there were no killer twists and I did not find this to be a thriller in the sense that I am on the edge of my seat can't My head was all over the place with this book。 I thought I was going to like it from the first few chapters then half way through I could not figure out where this book was going。 The ending just annoyed me because I read this whole book and it just ended how it did。First I am disappointed as the cover boast that this is a physiological thriller with with a killer twist。For me there were no killer twists and I did not find this to be a thriller in the sense that I am on the edge of my seat can't put downThe first couple of chapters grab you; as a mother (Anni) loses her son to a drunk driver。 We come to find out the supposed drunk driver (Car) takes the fall for the little boys death when actually it was his girlfriend (Jo) who was behind the wheel driving when the accident happenedJo takes the position as a substitute teacher at the same school Anni works。 This is where I thought it would really pick up but it just flopped for me。Secondly, I felt the writing was monotone when it should of been filled with thrills and suspense。 Knowing the truth of what happened at the very beginning I think hurts this book because there were no other big WOW factors to carry it through。Thirdly, I liked what the author was trying to create but in this case the execution did not hit the mark。 There was all this build up and then it just ended。 This book to me definitely felt like the ending was rushed。This book has not stopped me from trying out more of Daniel's book。 I definitely what to read more from him as I did like his writing style and how he does make you feel for his characters。Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC in return for an honest review。#netgally #goodreads #theaccident #danielhurst 。。。more

This was a decently entertaining read。 Definitely pulled on your heart strings。 It’s hard to imagine the grief one experiences after losing a child in such a traumatic way。 It was a bit hard to read。 I did really enjoy the authors writing style。 It flowed nicely and was easy to follow along! The ending was great and to me, wrapped up nicely! It didn’t seem to be much of a thriller。 There wasn’t a mystery or anything particularly anxiety inducing。 Overall it was a good read!
